Build structure with pressure-treated wood or another material. Joists should be installed at a maximum interval of 16" O.C. Plan for a local building code compliant deck slope. Validate your installation plan with your local building code. It is possible to protect or stain heat-treated wood before installation (see "Finish" section for details).

Install pieces of heat-treated wood on the structure leaving a 1/8" gap between boards to allow water and other liquids to flow through. Fasten boards to structure using exterior screws or nails or any other compliant fastening system available at your local dealer. Angle Max Space 90 16" O.C. 60 14" O.C. 45 12" O.C. 30 8" O.C.

• Never let your wood lay directly on the ground, which may hasten decay.
• If your deck sits 24" or less from the ground, plan for adequate ventilation underneath the structure to avoid a high level of humidity, which may hasten decay.
• Heat-treated wood can be cut or resawed without altering its coloration.
• In order to preserve its original colour, heat-treated wood must be protected against the effects of UV rays as soon as it is installed.
